Mobilizing statewide support for Common Sense Gun Reform

As people of faith, we are often told to stay in our lane.

In the American religious landscape, there is the view that good Christians go to church on Sundays mornings and that’s it.

At the Rhode Island State Council of Churches though, our faith is informed by scripture, tradition, and our own history as the church. We know that it has been Christians of good faith who have been at the center of many positive moments of change in the United States, including the abolitionist and Civil Rights movements.

As people of faith, we trust the experts:

Constitutional law experts tell us that common sense gun reforms (like Assault Weapons bans) do not violate the 2nd amendment.

Public health experts have identified easy access to weapons as a leading cause of death among American citizens, especially children.

As religious experts, we know the importance of showing up in places of power to advocate for a love-based view. We know the importance of rejecting fear-based narratives, secular or otherwise.

So we’ll keep showing up to advocate for common sense gun reform and we hope you’ll join us too.

Good thing we aren’t well-behaved Christians.
